Since 1988, the Indianapolis Zoo in White River State Park is the first zoo accredited as the first zoo, aquarium and botanic garden. Originally opened in 1964, the zoo spans 64 acres and houses 1,400 animals and 31,000 plants. Animal exhibits include Oceans, Deserts, Forests, Plains, and Flights of Fancy aviaries. White River Gardens, the zoo's botanical gardens, is a three-acre garden with special exhibits. The zoo offers animal presentations, such as Feed a Giraffe and Shark Touch Pool. A Tots Treehouse & Play Area, carousel, skyline and rides are also available for children to enjoy.
