Home of former president of the Confederate States, Jefferson Davis, Beauvoir is a small home in which Davis wanted to retreat and write quietly in the late 1800s. Constructed in 1852, the antebellum home remained his retirement estate. Today, the presidential library showcases Southern heritage and history, while the museum examines the Civil War through archives and artifacts. Tours include the Beauvoir Memorial Cemetary, Oyster Bayou, historical cottages that were also part of the 52-acre land, and the property gardens. Self-guided or guided tours are available.
