Opening in 1966 by the Army Corps of Engineers, the 8,230-acre Canyon Lake is designed to protect the cities below it from floods. Visitors find opportunities to boat, fish, and swim in the lake, while along its 80 miles of shoreline, people can camp, hike, picnic, and hunt.
