Settled by the first homesteader to receive land from the Homestead Act of 1862, the Homestead National Monument of America acreage is now home to the Palmer Epard cabin (circa 1867), alongside interpretive and education centres. Outdoor activities include a tall-grass prairie habitat, heritage orchard and garden.
