Visitors swim, snorkel, scuba dive, tube, canoe, and kayak on the clear water of the San Marcos River, and along its banks are many popular campgrounds. The river is home to several endangered species including the Fountain Darter, San Marcos Gambusia, San Marcos Salamander, and Texas Wild Rice.
