Umtanum Creek Recreation Area is a nature area offering a hiking trail through Yakima canyon. The trail is populated by wildflowers, aspen, cottonwood, beaver dams, and a timeworn apple orchard.
If you can deal with rattlesnakes then this is a good place to go. The old homestead is where the apple and pear trees are and it is much further then .3 miles. I have seen mountain sheep less the 20 feet away as they too feed on the pears and apples. If you have a date that likes to get dirty this is a good place to go and once you are up the trail a bit there are secluded places.
