While visiting the beach and park along Lake Michigan, you can also enjoy a visit to Washington Park Zoo, which first opened in 1928. The 15-acre zoo houses more than 90 species in exhibits like alligators, wolves, tigers and more. A 70-foot-tall stone observation tower, which can be climbed with 220 steps. The Rotary Children's Castle is a stone building that houses the zoo's reptile collection. The zoo is open April through October, but closes for the winter.
