Located along a stretch of the Fox River, Buffalo Park Forest Preserve is a woodland retreat. It offers hiking and biking paths, scenic views, river access, and a sledding hill, when the weather permits. There is also a campground.

Providing educational tours, Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center has a variety of artifacts for visitors to see, including letters and photographs. The museum has a Hall of Reflection with candles and the names of the victims.

Founded in 1961, the Valley-Lo Sports Club is a club offering a number of amenities and facilities for its guests to enjoy. These include an 18-hole golf course, a full-service club house, and numerous dining options.

Visitors to Wolfe Wildlife Refuge can jog and bike on the paved walk path, visit the playground, and play basketball or volleyball on the courts. It's also home to a natural wetlands area with diverse animals and birds.

With its soccer fields, two tennis courts, baseball field, basketball court, playground and 'tot lot' the Patrick Sullivan Park is a destination for sports and recreation. It was renamed for the popular park-district commissioner in the late 1990s.
